6 tips for a successful video interview

Online video interviews are becoming increasingly popular, especially within the healthcare industry, due to their flexibility around shift work, easy to use nature and time-saving advantages.

At Pulse Nursing at Home, we understand that it can be a little puzzling knowing what to expect and how to prepare if you’ve never faced an online interview before.  So, we’ve put together some top tips to help you show your full potential and set your mind at rest.

Choose your location

With Pulse Nursing at Home's video interviews, you can interview anywhere, at any time that suits you! Be sure to find a quiet, private, well-lit place, free from possible interruptions. Once you’re set, you can record your answers to the pre-recorded interview questions using either a desktop, mobile or tablet device, but make sure it’s a device you are happy to type on.

What to wear?

You will want to dress exactly as if you were going for the interview in person. Try to avoid the temptation to wear your jogging bottoms out of frame, as this can have an effect on your mindset and come through in your attitude and speech.

What to expect from your video interview

The content of a video interview is very similar to in-person or phone interviews; completing an interview with Pulse Nursing at Home should take around 30 minutes. The questions will be written on the screen for you to answer - some of our questions do require a typed answer, but you’ll be notified when this section of the interview takes place. Your interview will be recorded, and you’ll be able to see yourself in the corner of the screen, so be sure to follow the tips in the next step.

Rehearse in front of the camera

If you're nervous it can be easy to rush what you're saying. Although it may not feel natural at first, you want to speak to the camera, not the screen. Once you’ve launched your Pulse Nursing at Home video interview, you have the opportunity to complete a practice interview so you can become comfortable with the format. So try a test video beforehand if you're not used to video chatting. If you are finding your image on screen distracting, our video interviews give you the option to hide it in the left-hand corner of the video screen - this will grey out the filming screen slightly, but we will still be able to see you.

Get technical

Double-check your audio, video, and internet connection, make sure everything is fully charged or plugged in as you don't want the battery to run out in the middle of your interview. Ensure your voice can be clearly heard and the picture is clear, with no lights casting shadows on your face.

If things go wrong

Try not to panic, if you have to pause your interview with Pulse Nursing at Home, you can return to it at any time by clicking on the link you have received in your email invite. You also have two opportunities to answer each question. Remember: you can stop the interview between questions and return to it later using the link in your email invitation.

At Pulse Nursing at Home, we understand how time consuming it can be to attend a face-to-face interview and we’re always looking for new ways to make our recruitment process as simple as possible for those joining us. That’s why we’ve removed the stress of face-to-face interviews by using video interviewing.
