International Nurses Day 2022
Today is International Nurse Day. An annual campaign that is celebrated worldwide to acknowledge and pay tribute to nurses across the world and the contributions they make every day. Below you can learn about the theme for International Nurses Day, its history and how we are supporting the campaign this year.
International Nurses Day 2022 theme
The theme for this year’s International Nurses Day is ‘Nurses: A voice to lead. Invest in nursing and respect rights to secure global healthcare.’ The theme focuses on the need to protect, support and invest in nursing to strengthen the health system across the world.
Did you know?
In 1953, an official within the US Department of Health, Education and Welfare called Dorothy Sunderland contacted the president to proclaim a day for nurses. At the time, the day was not approved. It wasn’t until 1974 that the day became approved when the International Council of Nurses proclaimed the 12th of May as International Nurses Day. The day was officially named International Nurses Day or IND in 1974.
