Pulse Nursing at Home are happy to announce that our charity sponsor for 2020 is Mind, the mental health charity. This fantastic charity has helped many people who struggle with mental health problems across England and Wales. With their support and advice, the community can gain a better understanding of mental health and how to deal with the problems associated with it.
The Mind charity was established in 1946 when it merged with three major charities, which were:
- The Central Association for Mental Welfare
- The National Council for Mental Hygiene
- The Child Guidance Council
From the beginning of its establishment, the charity has continued to deliver an exceptional service to the community. No matter how big or small the problem, the charity makes sure everyone receives the right support and advice they need.
September 2011 was a fantastic year for Mind, they acquired their new president for the charity, Steven Fry. Steven has always felt close to this charity even before he joined; As he deals with his own mental health problems and wants to improve the awareness of mental health by supporting this charity.
Throughout the years, Mind has organised many campaigns to raise awareness and educate the community of the struggles related to mental health.
For 2020, we are running several charity fundraising activities to raise money to support Mind. We have a range of activities and events taking place throughout the year for everyone to get involved with.
Dry January
To start the new year with a bang, we had several activities our team took part in. Some of our team decided to participate in Dry January, whilst some may find this pledge difficult, there are many health benefits that come along with it:
- Better sleep Decreases blood pressure Improved mental health Increased energy levels Lowers risk of heart problems
Veganuary and Pledge to go Veg
Another January pledge is Veganuary or Pledge to go veg. To help our team through this challenge, we shared a variety of vegan and vegetarian recipes. If you are interested in finding some recipes head over to our social media channels.
RED January
Our other January pledge challenged our team to exercise every day. Whether it’s a walk, a run or going to the local gym they all contributed to the exercising daily challenge.
We will be having on going charity fundraising activities such as bake sales, dress down Fridays and quizzes all in aid to raise money for the sponsored charity.
We also have several outdoor activities happening over the summer. The events will be across the North and South of England varying in different sports, such as running, swimming, walking and cycling.
Our events
Dulux London Revolution
The first outdoor event will be the Dulux London Revolution . The challenge is to cycle around the circumference of London (156km) across two days, the 9th and 10th of May. This is a great opportunity for our team to take part in a challenging yet rewarding event to raise money for our sponsored charity, Mind.
Peak District and South Coast challenge
Our next outdoor events are the Peak District and South Coast challenges . Both events give the option to choose whether you prefer to walk, run, or jog. They also have a choice of 25km, 50km, or 100km distance. Our Peak District challenge will be happening on the 4th and 5th of July and will be shortly followed by the South Coast Challenge on the 29th and 30th of August.
2020 Swim Serpentine
Our final event is the 2020 Swim Serpentine which challenges people to swim ½ a mile, 1 mile or 2 miles across the Serpentine in Hyde Park London. The event will be taking place on the 26th of September and every swimmer will be sent a starter package to prepare them.
We will also be running other activities to raise money for the charity such as, quiz nights, dress down Fridays and bake sales.
